    You are on the right track, check for spark next and see what happens.

      ok well im waiting on getting a compression test sinc ei need the meter from my friend who borrowed it but i did end up changeing the crank position sensor to a new one and still wont fire so on with the compression test as soon as i get the meter......

      Also when i went to start it this time after a couple of tries i stopped and smelt fuel could this mean something or is it just because it isnt starting to burn said fuel...?

        .010 is too tight for m20 , .010 is for m42 , I was just experiancing this rough idle and bad running condition , it was due to valves too tight , .011 is fine but .010 is too tight , might not have any thing to do with your starting issue , but I was just letting you know.

          .010 is the published cold adjustment spec for the M20, and the M42 is hydraulic.

            yep, even the sticker under the hood says .010", (.25mm iirc).

            that being said, I too have found that .012 is the "best". For me, that is
            1989 cirrisblau-metallic 325i

              yeah , I am just sharing my experiances , .010 is too tight for me then , you can do it any way you like though.
