well i found out that i guess my timing jumped some due to a loose belt .....(recently had the head done) so now i got it all timed to tdc but i am now wondering if i am on the wrong stroke since it hesitates to run now.....almost kicks over but then keeps trying to turn over....
All wires and hoses are hooked up correctly definately any ideas is greatly appreciatedCars I own:

Sounds like the the valves are bent.well i found out that i guess my timing jumped some due to a loose belt .....(recently had the head done) so now i got it all timed to tdc but i am now wondering if i am on the wrong stroke since it hesitates to run now.....almost kicks over but then keeps trying to turn over....

Its too late now but I am curious as to what spec where you adjusting your valves too?
And also on a M20 the valves are supposed to tick slightly, its a mechanical cam.Last edited by peerless; 09-18-2008, 10:46 PM.Comment

.010 is called for doing such a thing as this when cold i know that haynes calls for .012 either hot or cold but ive researched other books and i know its always best to do cold....
And now I didnt do the head job a part time mechanic did someoen my great uncle trusts with all his cars(being as hes a car dealer)
And valves are not bent checked for compression and everything is ok though before this happened i do know there was a slight compression leak probaly from the rings slowly going.
But yea ever since that head job its been getting progressivly worse and i thought i might as well check the timing while im at it. I do know how to properly do a head job ive done many on honda civics as well as my old 635 but my mom didnt think i could handle it.....yay great confidence buster there but now its looking like i have to do it no matter what unless she decides just to sell the car as is i mean we just put in at least 1k into her not counting the head gasket replacment.........
but is it possible to be on the wrong stroke? if so i might as well try itCars I own:

If it is on the wrong stroke, you will end up beding valves. When you check for TDC you should be at TDC on cylinder 1 and 6. If its any other way around then it is not correct and you WILL end up breaking something

well ummm this is going to make me sound dumb now but i just rechecked timing and well what i thought was off is on correctly lets just say i did not rotate the crank 1 more time so that the cam matched up with its mark.....this just makes me feel stupid yet more curious to what could be wrong i know ive already done the crank position sensor on this car before it was a bitch.....i hate them dearly as well....but im beginning to think that it might really be the problem again......but yea any suggestions? since timing is not an issue im going to wait till either my mother or one of my friends is free so i can make sure its getting spark because i know its getting fuelCars I own:

if this all happened when you adjusted the valves my guess would be you adjusted the valves too tight. Recheck your valves with a proper gapping tool.

The crank position sensor is one of those things that will cause it to die completely like that. It is easy to get to on the 325i... is it different on the Cab?
You are on the right track, check for spark next and see what happens.1987 E30 325is
