Differences between 87 and 89 M20 motors?

there are other differences, they aren't *exactly* the same, but close

the 89 will have short skirt pistons (lighter)
the 87 will have 360* oil grooves in the bearings (better?)

personally I prefer early blocks for the bearings, but you can make early bearings work in later blocks too.
