thanks, if this is true then i need to go another route........i pulled out my spark plug and laid it on the valve cover and no spark when i cranked it....and the only reason i know im getting fuel is because i can hear it come on and it started dripping fuel from the boot that hooks up to the air filter(from so much cranking the engine)...this is probably bad hehehe...is there a way to test the coil . i put my ohm meter leads on the positive and negative sides of the coil and only getting 3 volts from there when cranking..any other way to check it?

If the fuel pump is running when the engine is cranking over and firing pulses are present at the injectors, the problem isn't the CPS. Neither of those will be present if the DME isn't powered up or the CPS is bad. Just no spark under those conditions is, a bad coil, wiring fault, or bad DME. The positive side of the coil on this car is powered by the main relay and the negative side is grounded by the DME for each each spark pulse. Check from positive to ground for 12v with ignition on. Use a scope or test light on the negative side to look for firing pulses. The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

your GM ecu is probably looking for a 36-1 wheel.

you dont need to know were to CPS is to test it. Get an Ohm meter, unplug it right under the circular obd1 code plug next to your icv. its the one closer to the driver side fendr. you should have resistence from 1stt and second prong around 540+/- 50ish. If not then replace. Easy test, and then test your coil pack primary should be .5 secondary should be 5000. You can narrow your search all day long, but testing it with a ohm meeter takes 10 min.
