it probably comes out less black because of weaker detergents in the oil, or the last couple oil changes have already flushed most of the crud out..

Hey... Synthetic is a good thing but.

10w * is too thin for the M20 (wont achieve proper hydrodynamic lubrication of the valve train).

I explained it once in here on a thread someplace...

        synthetic no
        castrol 20w 50 yes
the lowest temperature around here was 37 a few weeks ago at like 3 in the morning and it ran fine.

this is one topic that there will be several opinions on.
        so make your decision accordingly

I guess, but I've never used it
                  I just work there ;)

Oh, btw, synthetic oil is better for any car, and most of you have no clue what the hell you're talking about, and are also using the wrong weight of oil for an m20.

What should I be using on my 325e with 260k? I run 20w-50 and the Lucas. The one reason I would like synthetic is for the cleaning qualities.

Oh, and the Lucas seems to cut back on the piston slap.

yea, it kinda does a little. I use 1/4 of a bottle at oil changes.

                          m20s like 20w-50

bearing spec are ALWAYS make with a certain oil weight in mind check out the machinist handbook 2nd ed. and it will be in there. You are giving up power with thicker oil.

and trading it for engine life
