    Super ETA!!!Low Down

So school me up on what is special about this m20b27...
I know it was built for fuel economy and efficiency. and it has low end torque but what else?

Should I keep it, add to it, change any thing about it?

I would like to keep the stock engine if possible. I would however like to know it is worth keeping and that I may be able to down the line get a little extra HP out of it.

So let the Newb bashing begin

    Get a 323i head - 327i

I think the casting number is 731 or something like that. There are prob a few on here for sale.

ken, the super eta has the same 885 head casting as the 2.5. a 731 head would be a downgrade :p

all you really would need to do is put in a 173 ecu, and the M20B25 AFM, intake/tb, injectors, FPR, 2.5 cam and double valve springs. make sure the cam journal has all 7 oil holes drilled. It has slightly lower compression than the B25, but power would be similar with more torque.

OK thats a good start seeing that I may have to replace the head due to intermitant white smoke. During the limited time I have driven it due to blown tranny...so either 323i or327i? or are you saying bottom end +323i = 327i?

you don't need anything from a 323i. if you can find a head, intake and electronics from an M20B25, it's a direct bolt on to your engine.

              well that's nice

Nando is right, just get the parts from an 325i/is. I drove a 2.7i for a bit, it was pretty quick, exp with a 4.10/five-speed ;)

Sorry guys you got to take me to school on the BMW stuff.. I come from the red headed stepchild world of civics/ acuras and most recently my 06 wrx. I haven't had euro since my jetta in high school.

If some one can put a list out with everything I would need w/ part numbers if possible for a complete head swap that would be great. If not I guess I can feel around in the dark for a while.

I know I am a newb and should do a lot of digging but between my four kids, school, looking for work, and anything else that can be put on my plate, I'm kind of swamped.. If you guys could have some mercy on me that would be cool.

                  I'm learning as I go...

885 cylinder head is an "I" head. All you would need is the 325i cam and dual valve springs. Now you gotta ask yourself why would one need to drill oil passages in an "I" head? You don't. That's for the "I" cam in ETA head. Now if you're doing a headgasket, and score a complete "I" head, you can just slap it on and be good to go. Basically you want the entire top end, TB/intake/injectors/fpr and DME from the 325i. The exhaust manifolds are the same.

OK good, I can work on that..any year in the 325i or just as long as it is the m20b25..You know what years I have to work with?

as for parts, you will need a "top end rebuilt" or "head gasket kit". Be sure to replace the head bolts and timing belt/tentioner too!
