Oil pan drain plug threads not flush

Does this look right to you guys? Looks to me like a PO may have tapped and threaded the pan at one point and now they are coming out. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk

Is that a threaded insert? Would be easy to tell with a magnet.

It is magnetic. So someone put in a threaded insert? Anyone have tricks for getting it back in without a heliocoil? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk

That looks like a “timesert”. If you remove it, your stock drain plug will have nothing to thread into because the outer threads on the timesert are obviously larger. I suggest trying to tighten the drain plug into the insert, and see if the insert threads all the way into the pan.
