      Update

Got my parts in from Blunt ! Thanks again Buddy !

      E28 M5 compared to E34 M5 Waterpump

It is smaller than the e34 unit, but I think that could also be because of the huge thermostat housing setup on the e34 (see pic below)

Water pump hole in engine block

      Installed

      Thermostat in !

Ok so i`ve been throwing around the idea of running the stock e34 m5 fan clutch setup on this car, but is does not fit without some adjustments. I didnt take pics of stock fan but this is a stock photo.

After grinding off the front ribs, this is what I came up with.

To space the fan blades back and away from the radiator I used some washers and a nut.

And then it pushes the fan back enough

        Still very close thou :(

I may just run an electric fan because of how close this is, I
m just leary of an electrical fan dying on me when I have the car warming up or whenever im not there to watch the temps.

Oh ya, don`t try to clearance an e30 fan clutch, or you will get this.

It looks like BMW filled these things with honey !

Ground down the aluminum on the clutch fan to get some more clearance, looks like you can't.

Update : got a ton done this past weekend, mostly in regards to getting my coolant hoses for the heater core done and my wiring harness run into the cabin. My buddy did an awesome job on the factory e34 m5 gromet, opening up the hole into the glove box so the e34 gromet fits perfect. Got my starter and all the accessory wiring done , just have to re-connect my Megasquirt wiring and the car should start ! Car cranked over for the first time in over a year tonight ! So excite !

I hope you have solid motor mounts with the fan that close to the radiator. I would def just go electric, especially since you can run it through MS

Fuel setup plumbed in and leak free, at least whatever that installed is, I still need to hook up the return hose but that's no challenge.

Got some more parts coming, my radiator hoses are on there way from summit racing, should have this thing fired up and running shortly into the new year. After that I'm just a driveshaft away from a running driving car.

Running MSII on the S38? Would you recommend it over chipped ECU? I am doing the same swap (slowly) but also have a 91 M5, was considering trying MSII on one of them.

                            Also, what transmission you using???

I am running the MSII because I like the tuning aspect, If you dont have the time or patience for tuning I would just use a tuned ecu chip, I am also using the e34 m5 transmission.
