I would have to say you picked the right motor. V8. The s54 dme is a real pain, and I would pass on it due to electronice. Maybe sometime down the road sombody will have a swap kit for the s54.
M62 vs S54

Yes, 250 lbs is a significant difference. Absolutely. The S52 car is an '87 Euro car with a cloth interior. No power steering or A/C. I can go into more detail about where weight has been removed from that car if you'd like. That car wasn't dunked while I owned it. I think the new owner of the engine may have dynoed it in his M-tech 2 touring. That engine got a nice new home in another sweet Euro car..
The M62 car started life as an '87 325is. He's still got the big bumpers and cow-catcher airdam. The car has a full roll cage with Corbeau (iirc) fixed back seats. He drives it on the street a lot, so he kept the radio, A/C, and even power steering. He has a 5-lug suspension consisting of Z3 2.8 trailing arms and E36 M3 front stuff with Wilwood calipers. The car also has the Ireland flares (iirc). For the record something catastrophic (internally) failed on the M62B44, so now he is running a 4.0-- he said that he'd recommend that route as it is much more straight forward. He says the difference in torque is negligible in his opinion due to the light weight of the car. The owner of this car dynoed it with both engines, but I cannot remember what sort of power he made.Comment
