Did you do .008 on the cam or did you measure at the valve?
If it's at the valve that's way too tight.

The motor is at an angle so remember have the lobe pointing the right way.

Okay so I did another valve adjustment and the valves sound great but the car runs like shit, the idle constantly jumps up and down, do u think the compression is off a tad bit

I did mine to .008 last night, and it's much less clacky. I think .007 would be ideal, but I couldn't find that set of feeler gauges.

You can burn your valves if you don't let them close.

Maybe it's something else wrong with your car.

I think the valves are still tooo tight because it ran fine before, going to give it another try tomorrow

Even if you adjusted the eccentrics right down onto the cam lobes (without a feeler gauge) it wont cause your erratic idle problem.

When you pulled the valve cover you could have disturbed some vacuum lines introducing a vacuum leak.

Recheck your hose clamps and hose connections.
