Is it possible to do without boost, and no MAJOR upgrading as in stroking? Port, polish, cam, headers, intake, and custom mapping. Is it possible with just that?

Hmm, I was planning to turbo it anyways, but I was just kinda wondering what kind of numbers I can get out of it before then. I'll more than likely not even do anything to the head right now then. I'll probably just work on other stuff as in some good equal length headers, megasquirt it...eventually, and build my own manifold, too.

The ulimate N/A M30 is to expensive to build, if you have to have an N/A motor then you are best of with an M engine.
If i had the money i'd like this spec list for my M30.........
E34 3.8 M5 crank
Custom hi comp' pistons(might be possible to reach about 3.9-4.0 with an increased bore and the M5 crank ??)
head work (i've got)
Custom larger wasted stem valves
ITB's (i've got but not fitted)
custom six branch manifold
Stand alone ECU (i've got)
290-295 duration cam !(i've got an 284/280 schrick)
But that lot adds up to daft money !!!
If i hadn't already got the cam and the ITB's then i'd be sticking a turbo on it, as it is i'm carrying on tuning N/A for now.

Aren't all BMW engines expensive to build n/a though? lol About how much power would you estimate your car is putting down with your cam and head work?

What did you do to the motor to get to that point?
i have a stock internal 91 M30 with 540i injectors, 3 inch intake and ebay header/custom 3 inch exhaust w/high flow cat and chip. The thing dynoed 169whp and 200 wtrq. Major power drop after 5000rpms.
My buddy and I are looking to push it to about 200whp range, so any advice on your buildup would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I read you had headwork, standalone and cams. Would you be willing to explain the headwork? Also how much the cams helped?Last edited by Zen M30E30; 11-29-2005, 10:09 PM.

Zen, i'm guessing some thing isn't quite right with your engine as it's topping out to early in the rev range ?
My M30 when it was completely standard and still fitted to my E34 pulled well right up to 5.6-5.7k rpm. I then had it chipped which made it pull better right up to 6k rpm.
What was the fuel ratio looking like after 5k on the dyno ?
Which fuel regulator are you using with those injectors ?

This dyno chart had to be blacklined on the photoshop to show the curve. The problem is not that it will not pull to redline, but that it loses power significantly after around 5000rpm.
I know the motor is running 540i injectors. The air/fuel gets a bit richer after 5000rpms as well. I think the FPR is stock. My belief is that the injectors are dumping too much fuel at the higher rpms. The ECU is running closed loop as well since we don't yet have an O2 sensor installed. The Chip is Conforti made for the M30.
