I did two M52B28 with 4L30E automatics into E30 chassis. Both customers are very happy.

For some reason it won't turn over... I hooked up the starter and no luck... It sound like it's engaging but nothing is turning... Do I have a bad starter? It started right up at the junk yard?!?!

I didn't notice a difference in width on the radiator, and forgot to cut the rad mounts so I just put the old one in to see what happens... The auto trans lines run right there anyway... I'd like to leave the ac as well so I'll have to figure something out for cooling... Just need it running so I can move it from the garage.......

She's in, just hooking things up now... I've noticed the harness isn't exactly "plug n play" like I've heard... There is a wire from the alternator to the starter, and no place to hook up the two wires I took off from the old alt... Also, were you able to get the fan to fit when you put the motor on the furthest back option? The fan from the m20 seems to be an inch thinner, maybe that's an option... Hope to crank it up tomorrow, finally talked a friend into giving me a hand! Yay!

Tc
Awesome! Sounds like a blast... So I'm assuming you've have no problems using the TC from the m20? I have mine all bolted up with the m20 TC and hopefully will drop it in the car in a few Hrs... Any transmission overheating with the coil cooler?
Thanks,
David

I've been driving it to work and back - runs great. A few things worth noting:
1) I did a PS delete. Its still a bit light at speed - I think I can change that with a different alignment. Parking requires a bit more effort but I can live with it.
2) I tried for quite a while to get the e34 expansion tank to mount low enough to allow the hood to close but not rest on the ICV harness but couldn't resolve it with some clearance between parts, so I went back to the e30 tank, running a long length of heater hose from the e34 tank elbow up to the e30 tank. It's long enough to lift the e30 tank higher than anything else in the cooling system, so I get a good fill w/o air. Runs at about 1/3 on the coolant gauge in stop-and-go 95-100deg Houston traffic, with the condenser fan wired to constant on high speed and no AC. I have a 9" SPAL puller I'll be installing on the inside, just above the alternator, wired to an old-school thermoswitch on one of the taps in the radiator. That should do it and allow the condenser fan to be wired back to normal.
3) Since my chassis was an automatic, I have, and kept, the 4.10 rear end in it, I'm turning about 3200 at 80, which is comfortable. I have a 4.10 LSD to put in; based on one day on wet streets, I need it.
4) Lots of heat from the tunnel - I'll look at adding some sort of insulation if/when I have to drop the AT again.
This car is alot of fun; and I didn't let that GTO get away from me at the stoplight....

I have a question about the tranny cooler lines... on the e30 rad they hook up on the drivers side, and on the 535 rad they hook up on the passenger side... should i get new lines from a 535? hopefully this thing will be in this weekend...
Thanks again
ATF cooler: for now, at least, I am using the m20 AT cooler lines connected to a coiled length of 1/2" ATF hose that sits behind the driver's fog light. Somewhat like the OEM-spec trombone oil cooler on some 911's. If that's not enough I'd rather run a separate ATF cooler.

The paper gasket didn't fit around the lip on the pump, and unfortunately it ripped... soooo... they're going to overnight me a new one... also, just like you said, line up the steels and keep turning, and it went in nicely... the teflons are on and pressed (coke can)... seems like fitment is right, just need that stupid gasket...

I feel like this is a stupid question, but I'm trying to find info on the TPS since noticing the circle plug vs rectangle... I've read that the circle one is specific to an auto m30 car (with eh tranny), but what is the difference to the m20 TPS? Can I splice the 6 pin circle into the 3 pin m20 harness? Should I start a new thread for this?
Other than that, the gasket and seals should be in tomorrow so tranny should go back together and bolt up... Also, rack and pinion install should be done tomorrow... Getting excited to drop it in!
Thanks

Bmw parts had the gasket by itself so that will come in Monday... I totally forgot about the selector seal and kickdown... I can order that too, about to do the teflons now...
Is yours roadworthy yet? I'm anxious for you to get it running!

And don't forget the selector shaft seal and the kickdown cable.
