here's what I did on my 84 m10 to 90 m30 harness (735i).
m10 --- m30
pin 1 -- pin 1 blue
pin 2 -- pin 2 i didn't write down the color
pin 4 -- pin 4 brown/yellow
pin 6 -- pin 6 green/yellow
pin 7 -- pin 13 green/violet
pin 8 -- pin 18 black/yellow
pin 10 -- pin 7 green
pin 16 -- pin 5 brown/green
pin 17 -- pin 11 white/green
edit: no adapter, spliced the m30 connector directly on to my harness.
don't forget to do the wires in the glove box to get your cluster working.
white -- pin 3 black/white
black -- pin 9 black
edit: i didn't route these wires to the harness connector, i just did it in the glove box to the ecu.
Another E30 M30 Swap Thread, this time with an 84 318i

not quite unfortunately, haven't put forth the greatest of effort in regards but hey, got most of it done! wiring is semi plugged in, and the driveline is in too.
I got me finger stuck between a trailing arm and rear subframe while tossing it, cussed in front of a father of three thinking my finger nail was gone and simply nothing had happened.. left finger nail tracings on the subframe though! hehe

Did you guys find the "local" tb and other parts?Pretty good. Got the motor and trans re-installed and most of the wiring hooked up. Need a few little things before its ready to fire up, but I am hoping to have my car running by the weekend.
I'll post pics of my car when its running and all back together. Although I am starting to like the look of it with no hood and grille. :)Leave a comment:

and waiting you shall :(
hopefully we will be back up by wednesday or so
The diff needs to go in, but the PO spun a couple allen heads on the rear axles pretty dang good, so an alternative to getting the diff in will most likely need to be used.
Aside from that I am anticipating a fairly smooth ending to the swap.Leave a comment:

Can't wait to see yours get started, let me know if you have any questions
It's funny when you get under the car and realize how quick everything comes apart!! So far I have enjoyed the whole thing, not a lot has stress me out, and nothing thus far has left me utterly flustered and beat.
Before I got the swap car or parts I was in the middle of searching everything down, I was about to pull apart my e34 535i for the engine, etc.. This would have been quite a battle for all the extra stuff I have.
I'm so excited I cant comprehend it man.. saturday we are putting an m20 in my buddies car, and then mine is back up for the final phase!!!
FINAL PHASE?? I hope I didnt jump the gun saying that.Leave a comment:

It has been done enough times and Frank's writeup is great. It's almost Legos at this point.
Gathering parts though...that's the challenge if you step outside the tried and true path.Leave a comment:

i'm following this thread closely too...
I bought Franks M30 Guide, have read it cover to cover.
twice.
I'm anticipating a fairly smooth experience.
The M30 swap doesn't seem to daunting compared to others.Leave a comment:

One of the main reasons I want to do m30 is because of timing chain! I'm tired of belts breaking all the timeLeave a comment:
