I'm about to pull my G240 behind my M10 for a G260 and I was curious about weight differences.
(using a bathroom scale)
G260/6 (e34 donor): 81lbs
Driveshaft, big guibo: ~17lbs
G240: 62lbs
318i Driveshaft: ~17lbs
So it looks like a difference of about 20 lbs between the 240 and 260 all-in.

Thought I’d add my info.
-E30.DE Engine mounts in furthest back position.
- Getrag G240 from 85 318i.
- 88 325i driveshaft with 1.75” of spline showing.
My trans ended up being bad so I swapped the internals and rear case from a M42 G240 from a 91 318is.
They are both exactly the same trans the only difference is the front case bell housing.
Good info to know since it’s easier to find M42 G240s than M10 G240s.

sorry to haul up an ond thread but im trying to find out abou the 2 different ring gear pitches of m20 FW! almost all m20 FW have fine pitch 137 teeth but do some have a different tooth count???
For info here is the complete run-down on all interchangeability and fitment! We make FW so i have a lot of info about the differences.
There are only 2 different fitments big block m10/m30/s14/s38 etc they all have the same Fw ring gear with 116 teeth and are all interchangeable, as are the gearboxes and starters.
Then there are the small blocks starting at m20, then m40 right through to m54 (and maybe beyond!) they all have the same pinion to crank dimension and ring gear offset and are all interchangeable as are all the gearboxes and starters BUTT!!!>>>>>
The m20 has a unique tooth count of 137 teeth and a fine pitch starter pinion to match where as ALL the others only have 113 teeth, SO as long as you match m20 starter to m20FW or match any m40,42,43,44,50,52,54 starter to any m40....54 FW then they are all interchangeable on all small block engines.
you can NOT interchange small block and big block FW!!

Since he's posted in the M30/G240 thread, I presume he's referring to an M30?
In position 3, the 320i drive shaft is the one to use.
You can use a 325i at a pinch, but you need to extend the driveshaft on the spines, and mount the centre bearing further forward than the standard location to get some preload on it.
I'm running a 323i driveshaft, and this was what I had to do.

Quick question guys. I recently got a great deal on a low mileage Getrag 265/6 (US M3 trans with the detachable bellhousing) , pretty much the best transmission next to the 265/5 dogleg box.
I was originally going to use a getrag 240 with e30 318i flywheel so I bought an upgraded clutch for it. That being said. Can I use the throwout bearing I got with the clutch kit or do a need one that's "taller" for the 265 bellhousing?? Thanks in advance.

HoofensteinHD found a great option from RHD engineering for the G240 - lightweight M10 flywheel that is built to use a stock 228mm M20 clutch kit. Initial setup would be similar in cost to sourcing a stock M10 flywheel and HD 215mm clutch, but you'd have cheap clutch kits for the life of the car :)

I'd say close to an inch if you still want to be able to get to the bolts at the top of the gearbox and you're engine is in P3 (assuming with the G240 you didn't bang the firewall already).
