I have good n tight mounts, g265/6, had to shorten the driveshaft from the same e28 I got the trans from another 2.5 inches. I should have done 2 inches because it's a little short but has been holding for over a year now on regular abuse.

Is a e36 or z3 a candidate in this swap equation is the front half shaft from a manual E36 or Z3 usable for an E30 manual swap

I have been doing a bunch of research on the topic of driveshaft lengths, and have found some inconclusive results in the manual e28 driveshaft world.

This thread's original post indicates a difference between a 520i driveshaft vs the m30 g260 driveshaft, but lumps "528i/535i" together. I assume 528i=528e in the OP. lukeADE335i perhaps you can shed some light?

I want to know if the e28 M30 535i (g260/6 transmission) driveshaft is the same length as a 528e M20 (g260/5 transmission) driveshaft, assuming both cars are using a large guibo output shaft flange on the trans. The rear section of the E28 shaft should be the same, so the difference would lie in the front section, if any, between m20 (g260/5) and m30 g260 (g260/6) equipped e28s.

RealOEM lists different part numbers for them, but then states that the 535i driveshaft has been superseded with the 528e driveshaft's p/n.

Thank you for any help you may offer!

Hi Bob - the 528i had a 2.8 M30 engine in Australia, so the 528i and 535i shared the same G260 and driveshaft. If the 528e had the large flange G260, then I would think it’s very likely that they are also the same.
