The m20 1.1 harness can be used on an m30 by cutting the sheath of the harness, routing and positioning the wires where they need to go, and then wrapping everything again.
I used the re route approach on my fiances 87 325 and only cut and spliced a single wire that was incredibly tangled up in the harness.

George how did you extend the wires? Could I just use a heat shrink solder sleeve? I read somewhere that you can unwrap the injector wire and re wrap it and it will reachLeave a comment:

FWIW, I upgraded my "153" ECU, which is Motronic 1.1 to a "173" ECU which is Motronic 1.3.
It was literally plug and play, and added the stomp test to my car. (Along with better chip compatibility, and an improved idle)Leave a comment:

99% sure it would. My ECU is a 1.1, and my harness is 1.3. There's very little (if any) difference in the harness. I think all 1.3 added was stomp test (ECU trouble codes). Maybe there was more....but I think that's the major thing.Leave a comment:

I ended up using my m20 harness. Just had to extend a few sensor wires, and a few injector wires (since the m30 is longer then an m20)Leave a comment:

I bought them off eBay and I thought they were powdercoated but I'll probably just use black engine paintLeave a comment:

Thanks guys! I still need a wiring harness tho (if anyone has one pm me please) and I need to figure out where I can buy some transmission bolts too. But other than that I need an overflow tank and I think I'm goodLeave a comment:
