What transmissions are the other M30 guys using on here? And which driveshaft worked out good?

    Getrag 265/6 5 speed from a 1985 535i E28

It works fine and holds the torque.

I should include this thread in my M30 writeup. I need to build up the transmission section... so the more people write about this, the better.

That is the reason i started this thread, to get some info for my writeup.

Is the 265 longer than the 260? How bout the 280/285, anyone have those?

          My swap---->

          -Buy G265 w/removable bell housing

          - Destroy above tranny when trying to start the motor(output flange grabbed the shift lever and bent the selector rod all to hell)

          - Buy a e24 parts car for tranny (a 260)

          - My shortened e30m3 drive shaft arrives($150 shaft, $450 for the rebuild)

          - Realize the 260 is about 4" shorter then the 265

          - Curl up into the fetal position and cry like a baby for an hour

          - source another G265

          HTH

          .

Ok good stuff. This is what I need for my writeup.
What else is important to know. What cars did the 280 come out of? is the output flange the same size as on the getrag 265?

Haha, even though we are writeup foes, i'll tell you. The 285 came out of E24 M6, e28 M5. The 280 came from the E34 M5.

                    265 - E30 M3, Euro 635, 85 535/635, possibly some E12s

                    280 - 87-88 M5/M6, 84-85 M635, 91-93 M5

I have a spare 280 here, so I will go grab dimensions for ya, that should be the most difficult to get specs on.

And the 280 does have the larger output flange.

I used a e28 clutch kit - since I was using a e28 flywheel...But I have no clue if you can mix and match....

Oh and I'll say it again - spring for the 533/M5 flywheel - it is my only regret

But hey, you have to have some mods you can do down the road, right?

                          ....

265 and shortened 6 series front half. Cut by 1 3/16" to fit perfectly.
