    M30 5spd

How rare are these? Did they only make 100 of these as I see plenty of m30b35s for sale but can't find a 5spd for it? That's pretty much what's stopping me from buying an m30 :(

Any M30 manual transmission will work, and there are TONS out there. Getrag 262, 265, 260/5, 260/6... Most B35 powered cars were indeed automatics, but all you need is the tranny, clutch, flywheel, and pilot bushing for a manual car.

Every single car I've seen at the yards is an auto.... I found a m30b35 that's already out of the car and I am thinking about picking it up (it's complete minus the afm/ecu and harness is cut) but it's got the right oil pan and all. Should be under $200 and just sit on it until I get my 24v done and rebuild the m30 to oem specs for my 318? But I am just afraid that I won't find a 5spd for it?

What's the most common one to find and they all dictate a custom drive-shaft yes?

260/6 is the m30 tranny, regular 260/5 is the m20 yes, and 265 is in the 6 series car?

yeah I've read that the opposite is it true as well, using an m30 tranny on turbo m10s for example...

what driveshaft are you using with your m10 tranny / m30 combo again?

Can someone confirm if an 88 seta DS also can be used just like the 87 eta?

I think it a date range - I ALWAYS forget - Ely "RS4PRO"(?) is the guy you want to talk to - he is the DS whiz. He also seems to be on e30tech more than here I think - so you might find him there.

Also, it depends on what tranny you are using. They vary in lengths by about 3-4inches.

                  Oh, and I've only seen ONE e34 M30 with a 5-speed ever.

I would rather getting the motor of an AT car ( less likely was abused) than a manual car.
Unless there's a plan to rebuild it before swap.

George - i'll ask Ely, I have no idea what 5spd it is, so good point. I didn't know they were different in length.... stupid me.

R3V - I found a motor and it's form an automatic 5 or 7 series car, it's a m30b35 with the right pan. If I end up getting this engine this weekend i'll pull the head and give it to machine shop to do their thing and order new top/bottom gaskets/hoses of course. Good thing I didn't waste my time on the m10 much... it's just I couldn't find a 5spd and Joe Funk is the man!

only the 87 325e had the large guibo driveshaft, and it was only on them for about a 6month production span. As for the trannies, any 5-speed m30 tranny will work. I used one out of an e24 633csi, with the 87 big guibo driveshaft, and it bolted right up. If you can find an e28 or e24 m30 5-speed with the non-removable bellhousing(all the bellhousing are removable, but I'm talking about the type tranny where you can easily disconnect the tranny and leave the bellhousing attached to the motor), the 87 driveshaft should work.

Ely thank you! Just to confirm, the 87 325e ds with large guibo will work with any 5spd m30 tranny, does not matter if the bellhousing is removable or not?

Why do you recommend one with a non-removable bh?

I'll take that one. Cause you can drop in the motor and bell housing with the bell house all bolted up with the hard to reach bolts done - THEN, lift the tranny up and 4 bolts later you are done.

I misunderstood. I thought one WITH a removable bh would allow you to do this, not one w/o ...
