    Flywheel and clutch options

Definitely feels like my clutch is on it's way out and was wondering what people are using for clutch and flywheel these days?

The car is daily driven in the summer and has A/C so not sure if a single mass flywheel will work.

I am in Miami, FL, which is summer 24/7 and have a working AC, before and after my upgrade. I did m20 flywheel and lightened it to 13-14lbs, not super light weight. I then used m20 throwout bearing and a Clutch Masters stage 1. If I did it again, maybe would have gone stage 2. Car is very reliable. I have done 5 drives to the Vintage about 2000 mile roundtrip 5 of the last 6 years. No issues.

Just a few questions as this will be my first clutch job. I'm assuming you sourced an m20 starter (bolt on affair?) and used an m20 clutch?

I did not, while you can. I took my old flywheel to a machine shop where they heated the ring gear and remove it from the dual mass flywheel. Then they added it to the m20 flywheel after removing the m20 ring gear. But I messed up in that when it was lightened at another machine shop, I didnt mark the flywheel lock position for TDC. I am still able to lock it but I have to use the crank hub to now. If you dont lightened it, you should be find.

Another option is the RHD Engineering light weight flywheel. It uses all M20 clutch parts, but the starter ring is machined and uses the M42 tooth pattern. I have one and it is fantastic. Granted, the car has no AC so I am not sure how the idle would be in that case. Also you'd maybe want some tuning done to get the idle nice either way. Sssquid Tuning does amazing work for M42 tunes.

This thing probably costs less than a used m20 flywheel + machine shop labor. 8.5lbs and most of that mass is gone from the outside diameter. Engine response is bananas!
BMW High tensile Chrome-molly steel flywheel, light and very strong Hybrid product suites 228mm m20 clutch fitment.

Was definitely looking at that as it is the cheapest option (which is insane). Just don't know if I wanted to get that light of a flywheel
