So this is my first M42 and i'm about to do a thermostat on it, I have a paper gasket and an o-ring gasket. With that setup do i still need to put rtv on the paper gasket??

I use RTV instead of the paper. Make sure to closely follow the directions for it.

Ha I though you meant directions on the thermostat, by the way do you know if there is a special way to flush the system. I don't know if I have a blockage or something but it seems to take a lot of pressure to get any coolant out of the petcock, and only like a half gallon came out when I know their is more in there...

Is that what your talking about, right above the a/c compressor and on the timing cover?

No, thats the chain tensioner cap.

The block drain is under the headers.

At the back between the heat shield and a freeze plug right?

On block between cylinder 3 and 4 is the block drain plug. Believe it is 17mm. Easier to get to it from underneath.
