part# anyone?

Picked up this 318is not a long time ago, the car is doing very well. 200k miles on clock. Today, I tried to do some maintenance before I decide to do some stupid stuff

So when I took off my valve cover, the timing chain looked okay to me. My mechanic told me that piece of plastic next to the chian probably need to replace because it seems kind loose and some wore out.Also he suggested me to replace the chain as well(get the timing chain kit)? suggestion? Also, anyone know what's that piece called? and part #?

Can someone tell me who should I purchase OEM parts from of this site for good price?

That plastic piece should be #20 on the list.

Since your cover is off, you should change the gasket too if that haven't been changed

As for places to buy parts... I usually shop at pelican parts or getbmwparts.com (i find them to be a little cheaper than pelican). I know there's a thread on the forum that list all the stores that people shop at if you search for it. I've read somewhere that you should PM blunts for parts too so I suggest you give him a shot.

Don't you see my pics? the black plastic piece I referred to is the one sits next to timing chain. If you look at the last pics, you should see it.

i was just verifying what plastic piece u were talking about. theres more than one plastic chain guide. that top piece can be replaced but i would make sure its torqued to spec first. again take pics of the cam gears so we can see the teeth. going in there and changing the chain is a lot of work to do. do you know if and when the timing components were last serviced?

I just checked the RealOEM.com,the one you sent to me. Do you know where I can pull out/download for a pdf.file like this? I know for us Nissan guys, most of us have a FSM as a reference. I just ordered that piece(#20) and some gaskets and two oil filters for future maintenance. I have no clue when was the last time the po(previous owner)changed. Okay I will snap some pics of my cam gears tomorrow morning, and hopefully won't be that bad.

Your next oil change, you should take apart your lower pan to see if there are any loose bolts in there and change that gasket too.

Might be too late, but make sure the Spark Plug gaskets are either included with your valve cover gasket, or you purchase them separately.

re-install the valve-cover. sell the car. Buy a new 2011 M3
