Car smells like gas but couldn't find the source

Good morning,

My 91 318i was towed away because of transmission break down. During towing the oil pan was damaged. After having it fixed, the car has smelled like gas especially when I start the car in the morning or if I go shopping and park the car for about 1 to 2 hours and start it, it would smell like gas coming out from the engine. Brought it back to mechanic, but he couldn't find the problem. Any idea folks?

check and see if your FPR is working properly. also check the charcoal canister on the drivers side of the engine bay. make sure the check valve that pulls vapors from the tank is working as well.

Mine did the same thing when i got it. The fuel hoses under the manifold were not tight. It only really leaked or smelled like gas when it was cold out.

When the oilpan got damaged one of the fuel lines uder the car could have got nicked, especially at the front edge of the frame rail.
