    M42 connecting rods.

Rebuilding my M42. Totally stock spec with new pistons, balanced crank shaft, all valves, valve guides, 3 angle valve job, intake/exhaust ports cleanup, all new timing components, etc. But run into a snag, my builder said they ran into weird issue of 2 of the conn rods being weird and locking when installed. They installed them in different combinations and in different bores. 2 are fine but the 2 are not good. The engine was running fine. Have no idea how this can happen.

Anyway, I am now looking to get a new set of conn rods. May as well, since I sunk into this far.. There are great Eagle rods but they are 5mm shorter than stock and will not work. Carillo rods are awesome but way too expensive at $300.00 a piece. How about Pauter rods? Anyone has any experience with them? They are 4340 forged rods and light weight with $790.00 for a set.

Or, are there any other venues/options for conn rods?

    Thanks

Dose not really matter I suspose. Any good after market rod is going to be a big step up from the stock rod. Have you looked at Arrow?

Unless you are going over 8000 rpm or serious boost stock rods are usually fine. So for your application I would just consider getting some of the lightest rods you can get in your price bracket.

remember stock rods are forged and pretty badass from the get go. I have a perfect set of 4 if you need some.
Dont spend a shit ton of money on something that isnt going to change the build much or give you a significant benefit.

Yeah, that happens if YOU DON'T KEEP THE CAPS WITH THEIR RESPECTIVE RODS!

I did that once. I was 15. I didn't know shit at the time. But I learned...

Of course, if you get undersized bearings by mistake that would do it too.

But both of these things should be really easy for someone who DOES IT FOR A LIVING!!!

And anyway, when you have a rod 'reconditioned' it guarantees the bore diameter.

          This smells fishy to me.

But then, a lot of things on the internet do, now that you bring it up.

Arrow and Carillo rods are great but out of price range.

Pauter rods are good and their prices are not terrible with $790.00 a set of 4.

            Thanks.

This is a professional machine shop and they keep everything together. That is one of the questions I asked in the beginning. They are meticulus on their work. They will try to test clearances once more with mains properly torqued down.. Maybe these engines require that?

Odd they list them for m40/42 but @135mm

This one lists them at 5.513, might have them verify??

Or you could try the CXRacing ones, they are probably made at the same source but would have them size verified

If the budget allows go for the Pauters, I just picked up a used set for my project :)
