Yes he pulled the AC, but when I mocked the kit I left room for the AC lines on the inner fender.

Ok that's cool, now my question is why not update the afm to a maf? I not really a fan of the long intake tube either.

      Comment

There is A LOT of tuning involved in getting a MAF to work correctly. The MAF vs AFM are two completely different calculations. An AFM is measuring the volume of air while a MAF measures the Mass of air. Not exactly the same thing.

I do have some plans to look into testing a MAF on the m42 but it just hasn't happened yet. Would it be better than the AFM, yes....as long as works to my standards as if it came that way from the factory.

There really isn't much room over on the passenger side for the AFM, air filter, and piping hence the reason for the long intake tube.

I will offer anyone that buys the kit a free upgrade to a MAF setup when I get to it. Free meaning I would give them the chip/tune for free. Any hardware would be extra but a used MAF is really not that much money. Any piping/couplers/etc would be heavily discounted for any one that has a kit.

Has anybody gotten any actual dyno numbers on this setup?

Jake, what is the approximate current lead time on these kits?

                  Also interested estimated power gains.
EDIT: read through all 17 pages and answered this myself... Dyno numbers would be nice though.

I'm weighing heavily a turbo M42 over a swap... I'll keep an eye on this!

Hey jake It's Mohamad, I'm glad that you got the e30 kit done, I will be contacting you about the 2002 m42 turbo kit in the next 6 months, my 02 is finally alive and will be doing the final assembly in the next few weeks. I'm sure the m42 will be enough for now but the idea of boost in an 02 is irresistable :)

                            Folks,

Spoke to Jake for over a half hour today and placed my order/sent deposit. Real nice guy who had the details down. I should have the kit sometime in August and will post updates on the project. I was also debating an engine swap but this seems the best of both worlds if it all works out.

                              Good luck,
I think your 318is will be on the lift for the better part of the winter with this project. I would have seriously considered going this route if I'd know about it before swapping in the s-14 into mine. It should be an interesting comparison..same car naturally aspirated s-14 versus turbo's m42.
Let me know if you want any parts I still have a lot of m42 engine stuff in my bins.

Big Dan, you under estimate my wrenching abilities. Remember who introduced you to these cars? I can't wait for the race though!
