Car loses power under heavy acceleration!! Help me please

Ok so I have a 318is and recently installed a LSD... Car has been running fine fora while andi have been doing doughnuts for fun and a little drifting... Starting the other day sometimes when I go to burnout to turn around or do doughnuts when it's hits rev limiter it will just completely lose power and almost die.. I have to push the clutch in.. Come to a stop..then go... Can someone please tell me what this may be? It's only while hitting rev limiter.i have been able to bounce off it fora minute but now it does this

Edit: I had JUST installed a new gas tank

Stop hitting the rev limiter, it's there for a reason. Peak power is at what, 5600-800 RPM?

Do you see the button above the window switches? That is a sport button in the 318is. I highly suggest engaging when doing sporty things like Donuts and powerslide drifts.

The best thing you could do is install one of those air box supercharger fans from ebay. They really force the air in when you are giving the car full gas.

          Good luck!

I've got one. It worked, but not that well, so I installed a second one - one right after the other - now it rocks. At least 175 HP.

You're not shifting right. If you can get into third while doing doughnuts it won't cut out at all.

This could be a few things but my guess would be AFM. Check my thread on AFM in my signature for more info why this happens.

Did you check the new gas take for gremlins before installing? Also check your cat, hitting the r3v limit too much makes it prone to singe the hairs around the ears and tail.

The M42 engine uses a really sophisticated ECU for it's time and one of the features it boasted was a limited number of rev limits for a given period of time. I haven't heard of too many people using up the available rev limits, but it sounds like you did.

If you chill and don't hit the limiter for a while you should be able to build up a reserve.

Wait... the 1991 318is has a sport button? I didn't think they came in until later!
