    m42 tensioner leak

    so a while back I did a chain and guides and new tensioner, and of course the crush washer there. A while later I developed a leak where the tensioner screws into the block.
    Pulled the tensioner and put on a new crush washer and reinstalled
    now leaking again
    anyone else have this issue, and ideas whats happening

    I think what I might do this time when I have the tensioner off is find a good way to plug the hole and take a file to the mating surface on the housing to make sure its flat
    either that or load it up with silly-cone

    It is probably leaking from the joint where the front rubber profile gasket butts up against the rear profile gasket. Clean the outside of the joint, smear some Permatex Ultra Grey RTV on there and let it cure for a day. Done.

      If its actually leaking from the tensioner you could Teflon the threads. Most likely it's the profile gasket as stated above

        One thing to add...let the RTV cure for 24 hours. If you don't, the vacuum in the timing case will just suck it in and you'll still have a leak. Ask me how I know lol.

          ill try both ideas, but I actually believe it is the tensioner threads, unless oil can move up from the profile gasket mounted below and then back down
          then again, it could be all the wind turbulence as I do drive a bit fast :)

            I would be very surprised if it was the threads. The aluminum crush washer should handle that fine. Did you check the washer's mating surfaces for damage / gouging?
