    Loose tranny bolts/missing!!

Alright so I was replacing my guibo and CSb and saw my tyranny bolts are finger loose! And 1 or2 is missing... Why could this be and what should I do? And there is still a clunking sometimes when I'm cruisin in first or second and push clutch in and take out of gear... Like coming to a speedbump or somethinit will clunk real good lol

Hmmmm were you able to tighten all the remaining bolts? Sounds like perhaps the clutch fork is trying to push the engine and trans apart?

They are torx head, I forget the size, using a female torx socket. In a pinch you may be able to get a 12pt standard socket on there and tighten them down.

this happens periodically to all my m42 engines. Just use a bit of locktite on the threads to keep them from backing out. problem solved

I assume you are running non stock engine/trans mounts? On stockers I have not experienced this. Maybe something else to check on the Chump.

all stock mounts. Theres a chance I may have not tightened them down enough and that could be the reason.

I've got a set of those sockets in my shop just for that, I'll be out there tomorrow and look and see which ones you'll need.

Wait, the E-head (inverted Torx) sockets that hold the tranny to the block are known to loosen and fall out? I haven't seen that on either of my M42's in the 13 years that I have driven them. Granted, I have a tendency to over-tighten things lol.

This is off topic but any of you use the 535i motor mounts by chance? Considering buying some... And maybe 320i tranny mounts as well? Any opinions?

Go with stock engine mounts (rockauto often has them for a low price) and save the added NVH of the non hydros. Definitely upgrade the transmission mounts as the ones on my cars have not lasted as long as I would have hoped.

What are some good upgrades for tranny? Go with poly? Or a stronger stock like a 320i tranny mount.
