That's what I'm planning on doing but it cost 450$ to do the whole timing system. That's alittle on the steep side

On my 170k engine, the sliders for the chain were all brittle, and one disintegrated
when I twisted it by hand. So at least do the sliders and the tensioner.
Same engine, the sprokets and chain were pretty good, and I reused them.

VR stuff for the 2002 worked fine, so I didn't know any better, used a VR head
gasket, and 30k later, it's still working just fine.

      fwiw.

okay ill do that. ill buy them things from blunttech because of the great prices. i probably need to change my timing chain tho it has a tad bit of slack to it. idk if thats normal or not but i dont want to rebuild this head and 300 miles in the damn chain slips and bends a valve.
        that would be some luck

+1 for Blunt. He is great to deal with and always has the cheapest prices.

Make sure you get the mating surface of the block very clean before putting the head back on. Also, if you have any pitting from corrosion around the profile gasket, you might want to fill it in with JB weld and sand it smooth. This will provide a better seal for the profile gasket and make it less likely to leak. Like this:

Note how badly his timing cover was corroded.
