Very different in this country. We got a 4-speed + overdrive box in the E30,
and the same 5- speed (no overdrive) as the six in the E36.
And different differential ratios to compensate. Honestly, I never measured
to see if they're different lengths!

I don't know if that's true in Europe, but it's worth making sure.

guess tomorrow i will check it a hard way :) here in lithuania factory e30 318is is realy rare,
so get e30 m42 prop is like finding unicorn. so after some reserch i find out that m10 and e30 m42 props is almost same lenght, so thats why i want to know if e30 and e36 m42 boxes are same size :)

The g240 in the M42 E30 is about 2" shorter than the G250 in the E36. I haven't done exact measurements but I have confirmed I will need to shorten the shift linkages and drive shaft when I swap my 250 in. I don't know what transmissions you have in your country.
You say "Where are your other two cylinders?"
I say "Where's your other camshaft?"
