    Alternator question

Are the alternators on the newer m42 engines (I'm assuming for the e36 model) a direct swap with the alternators on the e30 m42 engines? And if so, how hard of a job is it to install them?

I cant speak for all e36 alternators but my m44 alt mounts completely differently than the e30. Poly v-belt style of course HTH
You say "Where are your other two cylinders?"
I say "Where's your other camshaft?"
    Frankenmotor: if an M42, M44, M20, S50, and S52 were to have a kid.

Gotcha. It would help if I knew exactly what type of engine I have sitting in my garage lol I'm just kind of assuming it's a newer m42.

You can use the E36 M42 ('92-'95) alternator on an E30 M42 if you swap the pulley. There are 80A and 105A units. The E36 M44 ('96-'99) is different.
