    Cam Gear Question

    Okay, there are two nipples on the cam gears in the M42. One on each gear. There is a what i believe to be a hall effect sensor on the front cover that reads the exhaust cam gear. The question is this...

    When reassembling the motor with cyl #1 at TDC where do the nipples need to point? i have the Exh at 2 o'clock and Int at 10 o'clock.

        there is a square block at the backside of the camshaft. The two dots should be pointing upwards at TDC.

            go to this thread - there's tons of "open M42" pics showing the alignment of the cams & cam gears... look through each page as multiple M42 owners have posted a slew of pics...

              on the gears there is also an arrow on the front. those need to point directly up with the engine at tdc
