Differential Output Flange Sizes - Variations?

Looking back through my pictures, I had both my 2.93 LSD and 3.73 LSD sitting on the bench.

I noticed that the output flange thickness is different!
All of the pictures I've seen online have the thicker flanges of the 3.73 diff (right in picture).

I measured both differentials and the horizontal width face-to-face is the same. I've had both installed in the car with no apparent difference.

Has anyone seen this before? Should I be swapping to the thicker flanges in my 2.93 diff for strength? (If it's even a direct swap?)

As a side note, the areas around the bolt holes are thicker (on the thin flanged unit) then the rest of the flange. You can see it in the second picture.

No need to swap out especially if you are not wanting to do seals.

Have already done seals on both diffs, so would rather not swap unless it's needed.

Thought about this again today after reading another thread on diffs.

Can anyone comment further on the flange thickness differences?
