What is needed to swap small case diff to med case diff?

My 85 318 has a small case diff and i am looking to upgrade to an LSD unit from a 325is. From what i have read that diff is a medium case. I searched but found no definite answer to my question

Is it as easy as just swapping the diffs or do i need other parts? such as the axle shafts from the medium case? If so would the output flanges on the diff be interchangable meaning i could use the flanges from my small case to run my stock axles?

Ok so with the axles do i also need the rear hubs from said car? will the axles have a different sized outer joint where the mate with the hubs?
Oh and my car has drum brakes, the 325 having disc would that make a difference?

If I remember correctly, you need nothing. The small 318i diff just has longer flanges to make up the difference. The 325 diff should bolt and fit right in.

no you dont.

the medium case will swap directly in. you dont need the 325 axles.
