It's all the same ZF stuff. BMW didn't use a different clutch for their LSDs. I have yet to find internal lsd components on pelican or in the realoem break downs.

      Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!

Ok question time. I am wanting to go the 3 clutch route, so from what I am reading I need another dog ear plate and a clutch. What size dog ear plate should I be looking at? I can source another clutch from bimmerworld (my other two are from there, so no variables) and all I need to do is remove the two 4mm spacers for clearance?

My diff was refreshed recently by a co-worker of mine, new bearings, seals, and clutches, so I believe I should be fine with just a dog ear plate and clutch.

I took 1 4mm spacer out, and added a 2.0mm clutch disc, as well as a 2.0mm porsche dog ear plate. Love it to fuckin' death.

yea you basically got it. If you want more lock you can get the 2.1mm dog ear plates but stock is just the regular 2.0mm

Is there a noticeable difference when going for the 0.1mm thicker dog ear plates? I doubt there is.
Yoshi I watched your video on YouTube about LSD's and increasing lock., very interesting stuff you have now put another thing on my e30 to-do list. Thanks

stock 2 clutch diffs have been torn down with dog plates worn down to......1.5-1.6mm from 2.0

They are open diff's by that time.

.1 mm will just increase the pre-load a tiny bit, and have more material to wear; I don't see how it can hurt if it;s the same price and installation is proper.

Just got back from local autocross with my new diff...what a night and day difference.

There is more tomorrow, as today was not a great way to compare since a) we were the first group out = b) lot was dusty and dirty c) it was overcast = no heat d) cold tires.

But, there is deff a HUGE difference now in power delivery. Where before I could get away with keeping the car WOT coming out of the corner and still keep the car in control now it requires LOTS more attention and thought. Have to apply power slowly and carefully, when the tires were cold it was all over the place but once they warm up it just hooks up and goes.

Now, to get me some 15x10 and some real rubber lol

I was worried that .1 would make a huge difference but it really doesn't. I think .5 would make a noticeable difference. I'm going to mock up and test break away torque when I get some spare time. I think a 0.2mm over shim on a stock setup should be good.

So why could you go WOT before and not worry about it? wheelspin?

Is the increased lock when off throttle making it trickier?

I'm just trying to figure out where the power was going.

                              Yep, wheel spin.

Wanted to update this thread since I had a chance to drive it in rain. I am using 225/45 (or 50) Kumho AST tires on 15x8 wheels, so not exactly skinny or anything.

A little scary at first, VERY tail happy if you are aggressive with throttle....2nd gear spins all the way to redline w/o any traction I can just keep it spinning into 3rd half way. Giving it a little bit of gas in mid corner will cause the rear to slide but quick correction/letting off and it gets right back in shape.

Now, while accelerating slowly w/o any wheel spin in 2nd gear, giving it more gas whips the rear as well

But yeah, no noises or anything, still grips like mad when dry!
