    DIY Output Flange Socket?

Need to swap output flanges but every 30mm socket I've gotten my hands on is too thick. Don't really want to get the special thin deep 30mm since I've dropped a boatload on tools already as of late.

Found a deep 1 1/8 that is thin enough. Can I just take a dremel to the inside to widen it out a bit? The difference is only like .05 inches lol but if this sounds retarded I'll come up with something else.

Get a 30mm impact one and grind it on the OUTSIDE.

Edit: this is what mine looks like

I went to harbor freight and picked up a whole set of metric, deep well, impact sockets. Took the 30 to a grinding wheel and ground it down some at the end. It fit in perfectly but couldnt get the thing to come loose. Maybe I was doing something wrong, but the socket fit on there no problem if that helps you.

Since you are in the NE, Advance Auto has a 1 3/16" that is thin enough and is only like $6 or something. It is a sold as a GM specific tool but it works like a gem for the output nut as well.

are you swapping flanges or pulling apart the transmission

I was up above it, Now I'm down in it ~ Entropy - A Build thread.

God damn it autozone. I was looking at the 1 1/16th oil sender socket last night thinking it would be mint if it was 1 3/16. But that store doesn't even stock it so it didn't even cross my mind.

Got it at Advance. Fits great.

I'm swapping flanges, but both trannies are off the car.

edit: god damn that nut sucks. since the tranny's off, I rigged up some 2x4s to bolt it to so I could get some leverage with my 20in 1/2in breaker bar. No lock ring and the thing does not want to budge. If pb blaster doesn't help guess I'll fire up the torch.

Is the advance auto socket an impact socket or chrome socket?

My impact gun HATES chrome sockets, they get stuck on too tight that I need to use a hammer to remove them. Ingersol Rand 231G.

You need a real 1/2" gun and a real compressor and that nut will come right off.
