Double clutching is a lot like rev-matching, but instead of just reving the engine to match the rpms while letting the clutch out, you let the clutch out with the car in neutral, match the revs to the gear you are going into and then depress the clutch and slide it into gear. Pretty complicated and hard to do unless you have LOTS of practise. IMHO, not worth it unless you are racing on a track or have a REALLY bad tranny or something.Comment

Yeah, double clutching is needed when the tranny doesn't have synchros, or the synchros die (like most MGs). I wouldn't do it unless I had to.Originally posted by NitroRustlerDriverDouble clutching is a lot like rev-matching, but instead of just reving the engine to match the rpms while letting the clutch out, you let the clutch out with the car in neutral, match the revs to the gear you are going into and then depress the clutch and slide it into gear. Actually, MG transmission are pretty much bullit proof, asuming you are not talking about the overdrive unit. Mine has over 140,000 miles on it and still shifts and runs smoothly.Originally posted by erik325iYeah, double clutching is needed when the tranny doesn't have synchros, or the synchros die (like most MGs). That's the first time I heard of MG trannys being bullit proof. Most MGBs I've seen require to double clutch each shift because of blown synchros. I was suprised when my friend's dad got an MGB that had working synchros (except first gear). It was rebuilt earlier though.Originally posted by NitroRustlerDriverActually, MG transmission are pretty much bullit proof, asuming you are not talking about the overdrive unit.
