    the hell happened? No engagement

One step forwards, twelve steps back.

Just fixed my fuel problem when my M50 was hesitating, 30 seconds later I felt something in the driveline just go and there was no power to the wheels. I put a new throw out bearing in the car so there's probably 3000 miles on it, the clutch came with the motor but it was in great shape. The only failure i suspected was the fact that I had a getrag 240 rattle on idle, but that's pretty normal. There's a lot of feel on the slave. I can put it into gear with no problem but it won't engage. guibo and guibo bolts are all there.

Also, the clutch I was using was an OEM E36 unsprung clutch mated to an OEM flywheel, I think it's dual mass? Regardless, is it wise to put a sprung clutch on? My friend has an unused ETA clutch and flywheel laying around.

sounds like the clutch is gone..... dollars to donuts the disk shed the friction material on at least one side.
I saved 15% on my Bimmer parts by switching to ...

That's awkward, it was grabbing completely fine.

Can I use a sprung clutch on a dual mass flywheel? Currently have an E36 DM but an OEM unsprung hub.

The dual mass flywheel is intended for the non sprung disc. The real question is why are you using the dual mass flywheel? :) I would also be weary of the transmission's condition, the 240 is pretty damn weak. A friend broke his trans with an M50. There's always the chance that the diff broke internally as well.

240 is fine and so is the diff, I baby my car but I plan on replacing everything when I go turbo anyway. The dual mass is stock on the E36 M50, ain't it?

So dual mass + sprung hub = no no??

you can run a sprung with the dual mass, its just slightly redundant.

regardless your probabbly going to need to pull the transmission. could be a bunch of different things but most likely something wrong with the pressure plate (broken strap or the like)

Geeze I hope it's not the flywheel, I don't think I have an OEM setup.

In terms of drivability, how would a dual mass and a sprung hub feel or should feel?

the dual-mass/sprung hub isn't there to help with shifting feel as much as it is there to smooth out the pulses from the motor as then enter the gearbox
