Welding diff MPG question.

How much MPG should I expect to lose by welding my diff?

This is just an idea as id rather be putting in a 3.25 lsd but just considering the idea of welding my 3.73 open diff.

I expect that tight corners will be a little I guess bouncy for lack of a better word.

Would probably use the 3.25 for everyday use and the welded 3.73 for 1/4 runs or something.

you won't lose mpg just by welding your diff, if that's what you're asking.

welded diffs can be very dangerous to run on the street if you're not used to them. Tight corners will be sliding corners if it's wet, or noisy corners if it's dry.

Ya i doubt you will see much of a drop in MPG
But an increase in tire wear

Have you ever run a welded diff on the street?

It sucks. I did it once to make sure a 4.44 wasn't bent. Drove it to the track,
did a bunch of laps ,drove it home. But after 100 street miles, I pulled
it back out and swore never to do THAT again. It's just- clumsy.
I guess if you don't do any city driving, it'd be OK, but any real corners, blah.

And I race on them.

Mileage? Well, probably the same, unless you drive around a lot of corners.

Dangerous in the rain? Sure. So's an LSD if you're an idiot. If you know your
rear is locked, it's less dangerous than talking on a cellphone or getting a... err...

DIRT tracks are the only place for a welded diff. even in the 1/4 they are dangerous!
