    Removed vibration dampener, nice difference

Had my flex disc and CSB replaced on Tuesday, and I had the vibration dampener chucked. I was busy rumaging through my phone as I was approaching the first stop sign, and noticed the better throttle response immediately. My usual blip to rev-match was a bit too much, I had completely forgotten about the change. Although it is physically a small difference in weight, you do notice the improvement in throttle response all over the gear range and of course while spinning it with the clutch in. Good stuff.

I may shave down the flywheel now. Less rotation weight is fun.

for a minute, I thought you were talking about the front vibration dampener, and I was about to give you an e-cock-slap.

i removed that shit when i did the m50 swap... couldn't tell if it made a difference or not.

    but cool, yo.

Nah... he's talking about that gay ass disk between the flex disk (guibo) and the drive shaft. Makes it fucking difficult to get at the drive shaft bolts.

Chuck the bitch... I'm all for removing inertial weight.

um, but doesn't that damper only spin with the driveshaft? So it would only make a difference in gear, right? And have no effect when blipping the throttle when the clutch is disengaged? Or do I have this wrong?

I am getting a lightweight flywheel put in my 318is on monday, can't wait to feel the difference. 28lb -> 9 lb

its sooo funny that they give you 130hp, and soak it all up with a 28lb flywheel. I bet your car will be amazing with that flywheel.

You're right, placebo on the free-revving. I realized it after I made the post, driving to work.

                      Sigh.

And in other news, it does add as much vibration as throttle response it improves. I'm getting a persistent slight tremble through the centre of the car on the highwy, my TracTop armrest is making noise 10x as often as is used to. I'm guessing the guys who did remove it already had noisy cars, but I can definitely feel/hear a difference. My ass gets a nice little massage now. That said, I'm still happy with the tradeoff and am still interested in a 12lb flywheel.

Are you sure that vibration is from having it removed? My car is smooth as butter without it.

4.10 LSD + lightweight flywheel + removed dampener = fast first gear.

Let's drive fast and have fun.

After a week of it, I'm sure it's the cause. It's a very low-pitched tremble from the tunnel, and that cupholder is driving me nuts. But damn, every gear really does feel more response to initial throttle input. I'm thinking that flex disc was beyond dead.

I think they did this so that people wouldn't stall the car easily. That may be why the 1st gear in the 318is is a tad bit shorter than a 325 also, not sure though.

that big "dampener" is there so if the guibo fails the driveshaft doesnt fling around. thats the only thing i can think of.
