Guys even with my car off it doesn't go into any gear so my biggest guess is the problem is not in the tranny correct?

For the hundred time this thread... Have you gone under the car while someone has worked the shifter?

We're giving you answers and your not doing what you need to do in order to determine if it's a transmission issue or a shift linkage issue.

Nothing special happens with the transmission when the car is on vs off. Nothing working with it off does not prove that the transmission is okay.

Honestly, I know you're looking for an easier way to do thing, but in this case there is not. The shifter is a mechanical link to the inside of the transmission. Either the transmission is bust, or the linkage is bust. The easiest and fastest way to figure this out is if you look at the linkage while moving the shifter. The only other way is by tarot cards.

Ok but we need to know what is happening. Can you make a video? Is the shift linkage moving correctly?

Did the transmission selector rod end of the shift linkage move when working the gears. You can't see it very well because of the drive shaft, but you can get your hand on it to tell if it moves.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

                1. jack the car up and support it on jack stands and then let the car run in reverse to warm up the tranny. (give it some revs and make it whine) Cut it off when it gets good and warm
                2. remove the front half of the drive shaft
                3. remove the shift selector rod
                4. Open the filler screw and stick your finger in it to feel for fluid. If you don't feel shit then open the drain and look for metal shavings.
                5. if its dry or has nasty ass fluid, go buy some redline ATF and fill that sucker up.
                6. Trun the car back on but make sure the output flange of the tranny is clear of obstruction. Let the tranny warm up again reving it and circulating the fluid around. This will lubricate the stuck reverse gear/sychro and hopefully allow you to knock it out of gear. Turn it off when it gets good and warm

                7. take a hammer and give the selector bolt a good lesson or two and this should knock it out of reverse.

Reassemble and you should be good to drive around in all of your forward gears. I've had luck enough to use reverse again but if I were you I would never put the car in reverse till I got another tranny.

also, to get into gear with a bad synchro I would have to shut the car off and then put it in gear. start it back up and go.

***cliff notes, buy a new transmission and install it.
Hey, this guy just gave you a fuggin write up. It's not that hard.
Quit being a bitch and fix the shit. Nobody is going to be able to mysteriously/remotely fix your stuck gear issue without knowing or seeing exactly whats happening. Unfortunately scotty hasn't revealed his tricks to telekinectics.

Either follow the write up, take a video of whats happening, or go pay a mechanic to rape you.

We want you to fix your problem, but he's right. It's been too long for you not to have figured this out.
