I'm planning on swaping a m52 into my 84 320i. It has a getrag 265 5 speed I was wondering if I could bolt a m52 up to it?
Will a m52 work with my tranny?

The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Either way, it doesn't matter. If it's attached to an M20 you can bolt it to an M52. Use your original flywheel, clutch and starter motor. To compensate for the rotated bolt pattern, use a garagistic trans swap brace and bend your sheet metal shifter carrier, or attach it to the floor.Comment

Where does OP say his car has a M20?
A 1984 320i would be a M10 car.Comment
