Will a m52 work with my tranny?

    I'm planning on swaping a m52 into my 84 320i. It has a getrag 265 5 speed I was wondering if I could bolt a m52 up to it?

Why does your car have a 265 in it ? It did not come that way from the factory.

Your car should have a Getrag 240/242.

          Definitely shouldn't have an G265.

A 260 or 265 will work with the proper shifting/driveline parts, though.

Why wouldn't it? It's already attached to an M20, so everything will be exactly the same as using an M20 260 on an M5*.

How would I tell what my car has instead of going off the internet?

Get under the car and find the part number on the transmission. On a getrag 260 it is on the left side of the bell housing.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Either way, it doesn't matter. If it's attached to an M20 you can bolt it to an M52. Use your original flywheel, clutch and starter motor. To compensate for the rotated bolt pattern, use a garagistic trans swap brace and bend your sheet metal shifter carrier, or attach it to the floor.

Where does OP say his car has a M20?

                        A 1984 320i would be a M10 car.

Nope. Not unless it's had an engine swap. M20B20 is what it should have.
