    Transmission Questions

Hey guys, So I'm getting a automatic e30 for a more then great price but it needs a transmission. Today me and my Pops went to the junker and we picked up a manual tranny for his current auto car, he's going to convert it. That being said, we'll have this extra automatic tranny laying around and the plan is to put it in the cheap car I'm getting.

    Specs:
1990 Convertible Auto> converting to manual
1986 325e> Needs auto tranny because current is shot

Is there any differences between the 2 cars transmissions or am I going to have a direct bolt on change over?

    Thanks!

The biggest difference is the Eta cars have 2 holes in the bellhousing for the crank sensors.

The torque converters are also different due to the diffent vehicle weight but I'm not sure how significant that will be the shift points may be. If you have the option to keep the original TC that would be better.

So use the original from my dad's car or from the car in getting? I can drill and tap the CPS in place so that not a problem.

You only say that your eta trans is "shot" which doesn't say what the issue is or if you can even drive it to test the existing TC. ASSUMING your eta's torque converter is ok, then yes keep it with the car. Again, I can't say how much difference a Cabrio TC will make in an eta but I also don't want to suggest you reinstall a questionable TC. It's your call.

Has someone used a 325i torque converter on a 325e here before?
