At the splined section of the driveshaft there should be a collar that acts as a jam nut to keep the slip joint from moving. Take an adjustable wrench or pipe wrench and loosen the collar and the joint will compress over the splines, allowing the driveshaft to shorten and give you the room to pull it out of the output shaft of the transmission.

Heck yeah I thought it did that but I was afraid it might have bearings or something in it so I didn't try it, thx Andy.

And regarding the starter bolts.... Yeah.... They are not fun. I believe the one odd one is torx or Allen... I don't recall which.
They are all reverse torx. The starter bolts are E12, the center top is a E14 along with 3 side bolts, one on drivers side, one on pass side and other one is pass side towards top. Then there should be 4 E10 bolts at bottom of trans.

Some pics of mine after I rebuilt it. Hopefully you can make out trans bolt location. Also, check out the part number on side of trans.

Allright bullhead, you're gonna be all fresh this morning and it's gonna become easy. The weather is perfect for wrenching today.

And I wouldn't worry about the difficulty of getting one out at pullapart. It can be easier to pull stuff at the yard than at home sometimes on account of others' work before you. When you're at PAP, use the engine puller to yank the whole motor then separate the two. I really don't like being on the ground any more.

That't it for my morning pep-talk. DOIT!

And I never said they were. If you paid any attention to what was going on, you'd see a guy was claiming the "i" forks were stronger than the "e" forks because he obviously believed the "i" had a stronger engine and would therefore need a stronger transmission. I was simply debunking his myth by making it clear the "e" is actually the stronger of the two engines.

Once again, it's me putting two and two together and you idiots calling me the idiot.

Don't waste your time. He's an angry little guy. He's got big internet-balls though. Which makes up for lack of knowledge on r3v (everybody knows this).

And as for Bullheads question about the yard bringing the hoist, I bet they would. I've always just wrestled it to where I need it, but it's a HUGE bitch. Bring a friend, like Liquidity to help. I bet he'd be a big help...

Actually, I didn't say that the "i" had a stronger engine, I said that I had read the "i" forks were stronger. Not once had I mentioned stronger engines either way. Don't put words in my mouth to support your claim.

Here is where I'm at, have the driveshaft, exhaust (had to take it lose welded up right in the way), shifter is out, slave is hanging out of the way( still primed that way :) I also have every bolt lose I can get too on the bottom and sides, I am now on the starter and it has the nuts so the back one is trying to woop me but the wife just delivered the Rockstar you see on the roof so it's about to be ON! I didn't have another set of jack stands so I used solid 12" blocks with red stone bricks as a crush zone if something goes wrong they will start dusting. The 4x4 wood blocks are treated, I also have a piece of treated 3/4" plywood under the rear jack stands. I have crawled under less and seen others crawl under much less, and it may be overkill but I do not want a car on me lol, plus it sucks in the grass but it's better than gravel. Ok back to the job I will take some pics later.

Oh almost forgot I have a jack under the rear bumper too just in case lmbo. And that's the sons El Camino, we were supposed to put the engine in front of it in this weekend but Bimmer comes first, I am going through his big motor right now, he bent some valves in it so I'm going with a 383 stoker assembly I have in the shed and some vortec heads I ported a couple years ago. It was already at 350hp but this should put it in the 400-425 range, but it's kinda heavy, you guys know how it goes HP to LBS rules all.

                                May Have Found Something

I got some pics of the shifter linkage and it looks pretty bent too me, would this keep it from going into 1st and second? I need a pretty strong answer if anyone has it because I need to keep chugging and pull the tranny if this wouldn't prevent the 1st and second shifts.
