Drive shaft difference between "e" and "i" manual

I have an '87 e manual and I'm planning to replace the ds and the tranny also go with a single mass flywheel instead of the dual...so are there any differences I should be concerned with for the ds? I plan on getting the rebuilt ds from
http://www.wholesaleimportparts.com and the tranny from http://www.catuned.com/catuned-getra...ansmission-e30 and if I'm not mistaken the clutch is as simple as getting the clutch kit with single fw and shorter bolts? The guy at the ds store said there were differences in length (not much maybe an inch but enough to be a problem) If the tranny is from an "i" model it's fine because I'm converted to all "i" components...just need the right ds...LOL somebody here has to know this!

Went there and the part numbers are different but the lengths are the same...

did you check the guibo/flange outputs on the two? That would probably be the reason for different part numbers.

87 eta should be large guibo.

The tranny will more likely be an "i" type so they should be the smaller flange from what I've read...so I'm thinking an '87i ds should work...right?

As long as they are both from manual cars and both use the same size guibo they will interchange.

You can just swap the output flange to match your driveshaft, right?

You need to ask CA tuned what size the flange is on the trans you buy. Then get the matching DS.

Good answer...that's exactly what I did. They can put whichever you want so I opted for the small.

isn't the trans for the single mass flywheel physically shorter then the trans for the dual mass flywheel? I know the bellhousing is longer on the dual mass transmission.
