FYI I connected my pedal return spring here:

I'm not sure it's the right spot, but it works just fine.

yeah - it's tight but definitely possible, and much easier than trying to remove the pedal box. I messed around with removing the box for 2 hours before I realized how much easier it would be to swap the pedals, which I did in 30 minutes..

I figure you might have to take out the ABS computer or move some relays or something, but it must be possible since I got the pedals out at the junkyard without taking out the pedalbox.

well, if you have to take the pedal box out its much more involved. you have to take the steering wheel off, release the steering column from its hinge and pull the column out to access the top part of the pedal box. dont really have to take any relays out.

realoem shows part #22 as a clutch return spring, I have one from my non-airbag car but I'm not sure how this fits into the pedal cluster.
                  anyone know?
nando, how does spring #22 fit into the floor? I just pulled the pedals from a nonairbag car and I didn't look carefully enough to see how the nylon piece of the spring sits!

EDIT: OK, I just remembered how spring #22 fits in the nonairbag cluster. It's shown in an earlier picture posted by ///M42 Sport. The spring fits into the slots shown in the cutoff piece that ///M42 Sport suggests welding to the airbag pedal box.

What did you use for a return spring? The one I have (#19) is too long.

here was my experience with the Pedals. I just cut and welded the perch on the airbag box, It works well. Had to use my stick welder, Ran out of Argon and didnt feel like going to national welders

the answer is #22 doesn't fit, it's not used on the airbag assembly at all.

the airbag cluster doesn't have the tab for that spring -- and there is no difference between the auto and 5 speed versions other than the pedals. I had both, and neither had the tab - I used the auto pedal box because it didn't require removal of the steering column and the 5 speed box I bought was all bent up. I also had a non-airbag cluster, but that wouldn't have worked for my car without a hack job.

as far as the springs to use, I am not sure which one is used from the factory. my airbag pedal cluster came in peices, but I was able to hook one up that works just fine. there's no reason why you couldn't weld that tab if you wanted to, but it's not neccesary at all.

The only difference between the auto and manual nonairbag pedal clusters is that bracket. It is not present on the 10/88 cluster that I have. Spring #22 slots into the bracket, as I found out.

I removed the auto bracket from my car and installed a manual bracket. The sole difference is that little metal piece that ///M42 sport shows in his third picture.

So today I went to a local junkyard and found out that the fucking box is a pain in the ass to get out and I didn't want to remove the whole driving column,so how do you just remove the pedals?

remove the big long bolt. you don't need to remove the whole box, there's no difference between the auto and manual boxes (on late cars anyway).

The pedal box is really not that hard to remove from a non airbag car. I figured that out first hand.
