    input shaft seal

    ok i replaced the input shaft seal and would like to know what i can use to seal the cover back on, bently says to use loctite 523 or somethin like that, i dont have any of that. would it be alright to use some high temp silicone? or should i go out and get something else, if so what?

    I am assuming this is what you meant about what the Bentley says:



    I wouldn't use any kind of silicon as silicone will swell deteriorate in the presence of oil. Hence why it suggested using the 548 as it is oil resistant.

    Why not just go and get some 548 and do it right?

      where would i be able to find some locally, i asked about silicone because i didnt know if that would be an equivilant or not

        you can use regular red locktite, just be careful that you don't get any in the seal itself.

              Yeah, no shit. I have to do this on my car this winter.

              NC325iC, was it a hard job? I know you have to pull the whole damn tranny out, but other than that, how was it to do?

                not bad, just undo the 4 bolts that hold the cover on and pull it off, then pry out the old seal and force the new one in there, the hardest part was probly gettin the new one it, i used a hammer and a sharpie marker to push it in there.
