    Transmission output shaft flange

I am trying to replace the output shaft seal :
Got the 30mm nut and the lock washer removed. Trying to remove the flange from the shaft with a 3-jaw puller. It takes a lot of force but the flange doesn't budge.

Is there any trick/tip to removing it ? I don't want to break the flange !
Is there a internal circlip or something holding it back ?

    thanks,
    Bala

Should pull right off. If your replacing the seal (I assume that's why you are removing it) maybe spray some PB Blaster down there, or try heating it up with a torch. All of mine pulled off by hand (I've pulled 4 or 5 off), or with *gentle and even* prying.

yeah, maybe it's pulling crooked? I've had that problem with caliper pistons...

maybe try knocking it back in a little and try again

I sprayed some PB Blaster yesterday night. I will try knocking it back.

How strong are those flange ears - hopefully, I won't break them using the puller.

He's already got the nut off though .

Like mentioned all of mine have just pulled off after the nut is off .
Either way a puller should take care of it quite handily .

I've seen those splines get rusty, so make sure you aren't using brute force with the puller or you will snap an ear off. Spray it every few days if you have to, tap it with a hammer, use heat, then pull. But don't just use a puller with as much force as possible. It may pull it off, but it may break an ear off too.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions.

I got it off using the puller. Didn't have to use heat. The flange face was flush with the spline face - looked like a one piece, adding to my confusion.

Once off, I saw some powdery stuff in the splines - probably loctite or something - think, that's why it was difficult to remove.
