coolant in transmission bellhousing = bad clutch ?

My car was leaking coolant at one of the rear coolant lines in the block. It ended up leaking INTO the transmission bellhousing. I drove maybe 200 miles with this problem before I tracked it down and fixed it.

My spec stage 3 clutch now slips badly in anything above 2nd gear. I put another ~100 miles onto the car to see if it would get better, but no luck.

Now these two problems might not be related, since I had the clutch out of the car and had the flywheel resurfaced during an engine rebuild 800 miles ago (didn't drive it hard until recently due to engine break-in).

Anybody have any experience with this? Did the coolant in the transmission really cause the clutch to go bad? And will it get better with time?

Never had that problem before, but coolant is super slick and I wouldn't be surprised if some of it got on the clutch and is causing the problem. Maybe try to squirt some water onto the clutch and run it until dry?

Coolant could have very probably ruined you clutch disk. You could try cleaning it, maybe with brake clean or something similar. A new disk maybe the only solution though.

My cheap ass would try a little harder to get it to burn off, I don't know if it would work, but I would try.

What happen is the fluid glazed your clutch and made it like glass so you will have to pull it out and give it a light sanding to make it coarse again so it can grab and not slip.

You dont need anything new it just needs the glaze to be removed.

break pads can also become glazed and cause a break slippage problem also.

          That simple.
