    4HP22 Transmission difference between M10 and M20

    Hello,

E30 4HP22 automatic came attached to M20 and M10 engines.
My M10B18 gearbox is dead, so i'm in a market for a 4HP22. But as far as i know, the gearbox mounting face for M10 is not the same as M20, is this correct?
All the 4HP22 gearboxes for sale came off of an M20 motor. My car is too far from where i live now for me to check the serial numbers.
Also i want to ask if replacing the gearbox is a very challenging task? I replaced the timing on m20, did suspension and brakes, but never touched the gearbox.

    Cheers.

    Yep, the bellhousing's pretty different.

But- is it integral to the transmission, or a bolt- on?
The earlier 3 speeds from the 2002s had a removable bell...

Transmission swaps aren't hard. Heavy, claustrophobic, but not hard.

Isn't it the converter housing that is different, but it can be unbolted and exchanged?
